How to style a slip dress 10 ways

If there is one dress I can’t live without in my wardrobe, it is a trendy slip dress! With the gorgeous silk fabric draping around you effortlessly and beautifully, what’s not to love about it?

A slip dress is the perfect piece to DIY your wardrobe and get more out of it while still keeping it minimal. We’re all about simplifying our life while staying stylish. Which is why, in this post, I’m going to show you 10 ways to style a timeless slip dress for all kinds of occasions.

Let’s start from the top!

Look #1

Being an avid lover of metallics, the first way I style this dress is by adding nice metallic accessories to my outfit. I reach for my metallic jewelry pieces, such as a classy necklace, earrings, and a pair of metal-gold heels.

This look is great when you’re kind of hovering in a gray area, somewhere between being a little dressed up but nothing too formal. It gives you the best of both worlds!

Look #2

Want to feel like a functional adult? This second look has got you covered!

Top your slip dress with a black blazer to make it a touch more edgy. The great thing about this look is that it’s multi-seasonal so you can wear it on a slightly chilly night or when the summer days are nearing their end.

I go a step further and add some sunglasses and a gold belt to the look to make it a bit more complete and add some depth to an otherwise plain dress.

Look #3

A great way to style your slip dress is to add another top over it. I usually choose a wrap top but you can use anything that you like. This creates the perfect casual yet polished look while also bringing in your waist and slimming the figure a little.

You can finish the look off with a pair of sleek black heels or even dress it down by adding a more casual top over it.

Look #4

A casual yet chic look that would be perfect for the fall is to simply take a plain long-sleeved top or turtleneck and add it under your slip dress. If you want a little more warmth, add a pair of boots and a long coat to the ensemble and you’re good to go!

Look #5

If you know me, you know I’m a big fan of sneakers under dresses. I love the comfort and style they bring to a look.

Throw on a cool denim jacket on top of the dress and pair that with my white sneakers. This is definitely something you can wear around town, while you are running errands or just going about your business while looking put-together and cute.

Look #6

Probably the best thing about slip dresses – apart from making you look absolutely gorgeous – is how comfy they are.

Sometimes, all you need to do is to throw on the dress as it is, pick out a pair of slides or sandals, choose your favorite jewelry and accessories, and that’s it! (Although I’d love to style this look with a sleek low bun and a resort vacation.)

The world is your oyster with this one and you can rock this look for any number of different occasions. The best part about a slip dress is how put-together you look with minimal effort.

Look #7

Who says you can’t look chic in the winter? One of my favorite ways to style a slip dress for the winter is to add a thick wool sweater over the dress to keep me warm. I prefer to fold the sweater underneath, at the waistline, to add a little shape to the entire outfit instead of making it look too straight or frumpy.

Look #8

A fun style hack to get even more out of your wardrobe is to turn your slip dress into a shirt by layering it with a skirt or pants. I chose to use a leather skirt for this look. Tie it all together by throwing on some heels and adding a purse, and you’re ready to go!

Look #9

You can also switch up the waistline of your slip dress completely and bring it in a little. All you need is a bangle, a bracelet and an elastic. Pull the dress up at about waist length and put the bangle on the outside of the dress.

Next, flip the fabric over and wrap an elastic band over the bangle twice and allow the dress to fall and voilà! You’re ready for a night out with the girls!

Look #10

The last look is perfect for those of you who are huge fan of the country style – specifically the boots – like me.

All you need to do is add a belt, preferably of a neutral color. I usually go with a brown color but you can choose anything you like. The main goal is to match the belt with the next item: your favorite pair of cowboy boots!

I love this look because the boots add comfort and style while the belt cinches my waist in and gives a bit of depth to my outfit.

As a perfect ending, throw on a cowboy hat for a flawless recreation of your fav slip dress!
