Miss USA 2020 is postponed, which means fans must wait a little longer to see the contestants evening gowns. Personally, I cannot wait to see the contestants, so I decided to create a top 10, if I were their stylist. In my evening gown fantasy there is no budget so the creations are all couture, and very over the top. In no particular order, here are the top 10 looks I styled for the 2020 Miss USA contestants.
Miss Hawaii USA
Hawaii’s look is inspired by the Queen B herself, Beyoncé. I decided to showcase Miss Hawaii USA in a look that is reminiscent of Beyoncé’s pregnancy performance. Her gold outfit and backlit halo seems like the perfect inspiration for Hawaii’s natural locks.

I dressed Hawaii in a gold Zuhair Murad gown, with geometric embellishments that were similar to Beyoncé’s ensemble. To give this look a pageant vibe, I added an illusion neckline, that amps up the sexiness. I also gave her a simple heel that wouldn’t draw so much attention to her feet.

Miss New Mexico USA
Historically, Cecelia wore simple styles. I felt like amping this up for the Miss USA stage by putting her in a feather adorned gown. Instead of going for a muted color, I chose a passionate color, to make her pop on stage. Since she has the most success when she competes with her hair in a pony tail, I decided to incorporate that into this look. Also, because her face is simply stunning.

Miss Georgia USA
Georgia is no stranger to the pageant stage. She previously represented her state at the Miss America pageant, in a white gown. For her Miss USA debut, I decided to put her in a bright jewel tone. This style features a corseted waist to show off her fit physic, while adding lift to the bust. I pulled her hair into a pony to show off her impressive jawline. For accessories, I added a pair of Harry Winton earrings, because our queens deserve nothing but the best.

Miss California USA
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” California’s styling, for her state pageant, was on point. I absolutely loved her fresh look. Keeping along the same lines of subtle colors and full glam, I decided on an asymmetrical pale pink tone gown. Although the color is not loud, it is covered in beading and rhinestones, which will certainly capture attention onstage. The organza train softens the look and adds movement to this structured gown. I kept her hair and accessories the same because we already know how well they work for her on stage.

Miss Connecticut USA
Miss Connecticut USA has an unreal waist. I chose to feature her hour glass shape in a gown designed for Miss Vietnam Universe 2019. This rhinestone encrusted gown never made it to the Miss Universe stage, so I thought we should unveil it here. I accessorized this look with Swarovski beaded Stefanie Sommers earrings. For her hair, we went with a Fadil inspired, soft curls tossed over to the side.

Miss New York USA
Miss New York USA is a huge fan favorite. She formerly held the title of Miss Earth USA and placed top 16 at Miss Earth. She’s known for her killer body and she typically choses to compete in bright colors. For her gown, I selected a shade of purple that is sure to standout. Miss USA evening gowns are usually covered in rhinestones but, there’s not a single stone on the gown. Instead, I added some diamond earrings and a necklace for a touch of glam. I kept the hair waved and swept to the side for a Hollywood start-let effect, and effortless vibe.

Here are 5 dresses you should NOT wear to your next competition.
Miss Idaho USA
Idaho 2020 is no potato. Kim Layne’s Filipino-Irish mix, gives her an ethnically ambiguous look. She is a former Miss Idaho Teen USA who’s flying under the radar of some pageant fans. This is why I decided to make a statement with a hot pink gown. This gorgeous chiffon style, that was another option for Miss Universe Vietnam 2019, never reached the pageant stage. My inspiration is the movement of Miss Universe Vietnam’s 2018 preliminary evening gown, that dropped jaws. Miss USA evening gowns are rarely neon, which is why this is the perfect color create an impact.

For Kim’s hair and styling, I pulled inspiration for another Filipino beauty AND Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. This style is simple and easy to execute, and it will show off Kim’s gorgeous face. A face like her’s shouldn’t hide behind elaborate hairstyles.

Miss Oklahoma USA
For Miss Oklahoma USA I wanted a style that didn’t scream, “I’m Miss Oklahoma.” As we’ve seen in the past, daring styles like Olivia Jordan’s hot pink ballgown, paid off for the state.

In in a similar way, I wanted to bring something daring to the stage for Miss Oklahoma. I chose a sheer style with black rhinestoned appliqué. Since the style is so elaborate, I simplified her styling, but kept things glam with oversized custom Stefanie Sommers earrings.

Miss Texas USA
Texas wore a yellow sherri Hill couture, rhinestone and beaded gown for her state competition. This was stying with slicked back hair, which is not easy to pull off. It reminded me of Miss Universe 2006, Zuleyka Rivera.

Zuleyka wore my favorite Miss Universe gown of all time, so I decided to draw some inspiration from her metal masterpiece. I dressed Miss Texas USA in a metal gown that reminds me of Mercury. The fabric is completely unique and will result in fresh look for the pageant powerhouse state.

Miss Nevada USA
Dressing Victoria for Miss USA is a challenge because her state gown set the standard for all gowns to follow. She won her title in a pageant lovers dream gown by Venezuelan designer Dheymid Galaviz. The sleeves of this gown are excellently executed to reveal her arms, rather than hide them. The feather trimmed hem added an element of lux to this already embellished style.

For her Miss USA gown, I decided to go with something equally over the top. I dressed her in a gold Zuhair Murad couture gown, that is inspired by Cleopatra herself. I wanted to build on her sleeve theme with a cape. For the color of the gown, I chose a tone that blurs the lines between gold and yellow.
